Programme Aims
- To enable learners to develop a range of leadership skills and the ability to put them into practise in their role
- Develop the leadership capabilities of learners enabling them to motivate and engage their teams and manage working relationships with confidence
- Develop learners effectiveness and confidence within the team leader role
Structure
Delivered over a 4-month period, the 4 unit modules are accredited against the ILM level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills.
Session 1 Leadership and Developing Yourself as a Team Leader
Content
- The difference between leadership and management
- Understand a range of leadership styles and their impact
- The role and responsibilities of a team leader
- Assess own capabilities of self in the leadership role
Session 2 Managing the Performance of the Work Team
Content
- Understand the performance management process and performance requirements
- Setting performance standards for the team
- Monitoring and measuring team members performance and contribution
- Managing under-performance
- Understand and apply motivational techniques
Session 3 Developing the Work Team
Content
- The key differences between groups and teams
- How effective teams are formed
- The benefits of working in teams
- Understanding team roles and to make the most of the team’s skills
- Managing conflict in a team
Session 4 Organising Yourself and Effective Time Management
Content
- The importance of effective time management
- Identifying own strengths and weaknesses in managing time and organising workload
- Simple time management techniques
- Prioritising objectives
- Setting SMART objectives to achieve department goals
- Managing stress
Assessment
Participants will work towards the achievement of an ILM level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills through the successful completion of 4 x written assessment question papers. Feedback and assessment coaching is available throughout the programme.
